He is charged with aggravated assault on police officers, drug possession, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and forgery in connection to the Heights incident, police reports said. Benitez has been arrested 12 times, court officials said.
Police were called to South Street and Palisade Avenue at 4:49 a.m. on a report of a street fight and spoke to Benitez, who had a strong smell of PCP on his breath, reports said.
Benitez began screaming in the middle of the street, took a "fighting stance," and threatened the officers, reports said. When they attempted to arrest him, Benitez began punching and kicking, and at one point he banged his head on the ground several times, reports said.
A search of Benitez's vehicle turned up $1,360 worth counterfeit cash, reports said.
The two officers were treated at Christ Hospital for PCP exposure, reports said.
Benitez vag com 10.6 was in prison from Aug. 12, 2008 to May 10, 2011 for aggravated assault and conspiracy to distribute drugs, corrections records say.

A Jersey City felon bailed from his car and took off running Wednesday night when cops approached with lights flashing. But police caught him after a chase and automotive codes diagnostic police dog Joker found plastic bags containing suspected crack cocaine along the route of his run, officials said.
Edwin Maldonado, 27, of Baldwin Avenue at Fleet Street, was arrested at about 7:35 p.m. on Waverly Street and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, eluding police and numerous drug offenses, reports said.
